Mirror Book (1985) by John Christie and Ron King
“The reader becomes the text! Thirty mirror-foil pages are bound in glass mirror endboards riveted together. The book is packed in a padded solander box and a pair of white gloves is provided for handling. As one turns the pages, hands are reflected, and on looking closely, our own faces. In the act of turning, the self-image becomes distorted. Here the book is the entrance key to a world of self-contemplation, and, potentially, self-knowledge. The original prototype for this book was made by John Christie and Ron King for an exhibition held at the Victoria & Albert Museum in 1979, ‘The Open and Closed Book’. A limited edition of thirty-five copies was published in 1985 by Kings Circle Press.” (Quote from ‘The Art of the Book: From Medieval Manuscript to Graphic Novel’ by James Bettley)
