plaiddeer asked: i have to give a small presentation on a book artist in my book arts class today, do you have any suggestions?
Some examples off the top of my head of well-known book artists: Thomas Allen, Brian Dettmer, Su Blackwell, Georgia Russell, Irma Book, Keith Smith, Cara Barer, Robert The, Denise Hawrysio, Kyle Kirkpatrick, Laura Cahill, Rachael Ashe, Alexander Kozer Robinson, Guy Laramee etc… but there are literally hundreds more. Have a good long look through my archive, and see what strikes you most.
Without knowing which book artist you’re going to be specifically looking at, I suggest you use lots of visuals throughout your presentation if you can. Have the best examples of the artist’s work projected on a board behind you, summarize the concept behind each piece and if possible, pass around example work by the artist if you have any books by them. If you have time, it’s worth printing off postcard size images of their work and passing them out to the class (if you get nervous like I do, it helps to have the viewer looking at the cards and not you! Visuals generally help the audience to engage.) Good luck! x
