»the art of typewriting« by ruth & marvin sackner, steven heller
this book mines the collection of the sackner archive of visual and concrete poetry, the largest such collection in the world.
each cover displays a unique combination of two artworks. this was achieved through the creation of a custom algorithm that processes the data that is fed to the hp indigo 10000 digital press.
internally, the book is divided into three main sections: an introduction to the history of the typewriter and its art; an expansive plate section showing key works and a dense reference section featuring biographies of the genre’s most influential artists and writers.
i’m very glad, that one of my typewriter poems is featured in this beautiful book!

TED Talk: Brian Dettmer - Old Books Reborn as Intricate Art
What do you do with an outdated encyclopedia in the information age? With X-Acto knives and an eye for a good remix, artist Brian Dettmer makes beautiful, unexpected sculptures that breathe new life into old books.
The Ministry of Stories in London has helped thousands of kids with their writing, whether in group workshops, or with one-to-one mentoring. The kids get help with all kinds of writing – stories, lyrics, journalism, and even soap-opera scripts, and have published several collaborative books.
The latest fruit of their labours is the fantastic Awfully Bad Guide to Monster Housekeeping. The original guide was rather tragically burnt to a crisp by a dragon called Vera, so the young writers of the Ministry were tasked with writing an entirely new guide, divided into four separate books: The Alphabet, Fashion & Grooming, Food & Recipes, and Home & Recreation.
Each section is full of tips to help monsters manage their daily lives, and the books also feature pages where the readers can add in their own ideas.
